About the event

Rhythm Nights at Sub-Mission: Ricardo y Rey

Rhythm Nights at Sub-Mission opens with an intimate live performance by Ricardo y Rey, a genre-defying duo known for their deep rhythmic language and global musical reach.

Led by guitarist and vocalist Ricardo Quiñones and percussionist Reinaldo Dejesus, Ricardo y Rey craft a sound rooted in tradition yet unmistakably modern. Drawing from Bomba y Plena, electro-afrobeat, and subtle reggaetón undertones, their music moves effortlessly between groove, melody, and emotion — inviting listeners to lean in, connect, and stay present.

Individually, both artists are Grammy-winning collaborators who have toured and recorded alongside some of the most influential voices in contemporary music, including Lauryn Hill, India Arie, Alicia Keys, Antibalas, and Arturo O’Farrill. Their work carries both credibility and curiosity — music that feels lived-in, expansive, and alive.

Set within the intimate atmosphere of Sub-Mission, this evening is designed for listening and lingering. Live rhythm-forward…
